3 smugglers held in Boulton Market raid
KARACHI: Three smugglers were arrested and tobacco products worth over Rs80 million were seized in a joint raid by the Pakistan Custom’s Anti–Smuggling Organisation (ASO) and Sindh Rangers at a warehouse in Boulton Market on Sunday. “We received information about a large consignment of cigarettes, Indian naswar and gutkha being brought into the city. Teams were deployed near the Yousuf Centre in Boulton Market for intelligence gathering and, after confirmation, a raid was conducted,” Senior Intelligence Officer Haji Aslam told The News.
He said the MA Jinnah Road was cordoned off before the operation was started. “The warehouse was spread over the second and third floors of the Yousuf Centre. Three smugglers were arrested on the spot and the entire consignment was seized.”
Aslam said the suspects had been shifted for interrogation and disclosed the goods were worth over Rs80 million.
