Karachi: NAB arrests revenue supervisor over land fraud
KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested on Wednesday the revenue supervisor (Tapedar) of Ghotki district for allegedly selling government lands to private parties. The accused Abdul Sattar Kalwar, according to NAB, illegally misappropriated lands by converting running grants into lease. A compensation of more than Rs500 million was paid, which resulted in massive losses to the government and illegal gains of around Rs42 million.
The suspect was involved in the Rainee Canal project in Guddu that is being executed by the Water And Power Development Authority (Wapda). The land for the project was acquired by the Sindh Revenue Department. Kalwar allegedly in connivance with other people revised, defaulted and cancelled grants and issued transfer forms to bogus khatedars. A complaint was filed with the Anti-Corruption Establishment of Sukkur against SM Ayaz Rana, the Deputy District Officer (Revenue) Ubaro, for demanding compensation. As some officials of Wapda under the federal government were also involved, the case was forwarded to the FIA, which later transferred the case to NAB.
