Karachi: 2 ‘terrorists’ shot dead, ringleader arrested
KARACHI: Two alleged terrorists associated with a banned outfit were gunned down and their ringleader arrested following an encounter in Machhar Colony on Monday. The police had initially claimed that one or two suspects had blown themselves up when the law enforcers had raided their hideout. However, they later clarified that the explosives stored by the suspects had caught fire during the exchange of fire between the police and the alleged terrorists.
Sohrab Goth SDPO Qamar Ahmed said that during the encounter, two terrorists were killed and their ringleader Qari Ahsanullah arrested.
The hideout of the suspects had caught fire during the exchange of fire, following which Ahsanullah was trying to escape when the police arrested him.
The dead suspects were identified as Muhammad Zaman alias Kaka and Irshad. The police found a Kalashnikov, a repeater shotgun and a TT pistol on them.
DSP Qamar Ahmed said the suspects were involved in kidnappings for ransom, extortion and attacks on law enforcers.
Ahmed said Ahsanullah was the ringleader of the group and many revealing confessions were expected from him during the investigation.
Karachi police chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo commended the Sohrab Goth police officials for killing the two suspects and arresting their ringleader. Thebo also announced Rs200,000 as cash reward for the police.
