Charsadda: Jirga members, girl’s father and brothers arrested
CHARSADDA: Foiling an attempt to marry a 13–year–old girl under the ‘Swara’, the police on Wednesday arrested the jirga members and representatives of the two parties in Rajar village in Charsadda district, official sources said.
They said that the daughter of Pervez of Mardan district had eloped with Kamil Ali, a resident of Marchakay area in Rajar village in Charsadda.
They said the couple was hiding but the girl’s relatives had captured and brought them to Mardan district. They said a jirga was in progress to settle the dispute and had decided to give away Kamil Ali’s sister Razia Bibi in Swara to the girl’s brother Shezad, 13, to settle the dispute. They said acting on a tip-off, the police raided a hujra in Marchakay area and arrested the jirga members, including, Ihsanullha, Inayat Ali Shah, Arshad Ali, Amjad Tariq and Subhanallha. The sources said the police had also arrested the girl’s father Pervez and her brother Kamil Ali, adding they police apprehended Shehzad, his father Shamshad Ali, brothers Ijaz Ali and Imtiaz Ali during the action. The police lodged the case and started an investigation into the incident.
