Lahore: 8 Afghans held with fake documents
LAHORE: FIA Immigration Wednesday arrested eight Afghan nationals at Allama Iqbal Airport for travelling on fake documents. PIA officials had issued them boarding cards. The FIA officials intercepted the passengers including Muhammad Nahim, Asif Khan, Shouakt Zaman, Masroor (real name Asif Popzay), Zurtusht Popal, Maryam Popal, Lilama Bakhtiari and Tjla Bakhtiari at immigration clearance.
All the passengers were destined to Italy (Milan). Addressing a press conference at his office Wednesday, Director FIA, Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar along with in charge FIA Immigration Allama Iqbal Airport Muhammad Ahmed and in charge Anti–Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) Basharat Shehzad, said the passengers were Afghan nationals and they had crossed Afghan border through Torkham Border.
He said if the passengers reached their destination unchecked, the PIA management had to pay a fine of 40, 000 pounds (Rs 6 million). He said all the Afghan nationals were travelling on fake passports and visas of different countries including Danish, Swiss, Finland, Bulgarian and others. To a question, Dr Usman said the FIA would write to PIA authorities on the issue. “But we will not take action against them as the PIA staff was not involved in it, he said.
