250kg explosives seized in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: A major terror bid was foiled Friday morning with security personnel seizing a car containing a huge cache of explosive material from Landikotal town in Khyber tribal region bordering Peshawar, officials said.
Some 250 kilogrammes of explosives were found inside a vehicle and it appeared that the explosives were to be used in carrying out a major attack in Landikotal bazaar, the officials speaking to Daily Times on condition of anonymity confirmed. A search operation was launched after the vehicle was seized with explosives to find handlers of the vehicle planning the attack. Local administration sources said no arrests were made so far. An attack of the scale would have caused colossal damage and huge loss of life, the officials feared, adding that the new wave of violence in the region looked “reaction” to ongoing ‘Khyber 1’ operation against Taliban and Lashkar–e–Islam and other militants.
