Lahore: Factories sealed over spurious drugs; 4 held
LAHORE: City Raiwind Police on Sunday arrested four officials of two pharmaceutical companies on the allegations of producing substandard medicines. Syrup Almajax and injection Ofcil prepared by these pharmaceutical companies were supplied to District Headquarters Hospital, Hafizabad.
As a number of complaints were received about the standard of these medicines, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the matter and directed Health Department authorities to hold an investigation and submit a report to him. Drug testing laboratory of Health Department declared syrup Almajax substandard while coagulated particles could easily be seen in injection Ofcil. On the report of Health Department, the chief minister directed CCPO Lahore Capt (R) Muhammad Amin Wains to arrest the elements involved in the production and sale of substandard medicines as they were playing with the human lives.
DSP City Raiwind accompanied by SHO City Raiwind and Manga Mandi, Drug Inspectors of Allama Iqbal Town and Nishtar Town raided the pharmaceuticals, sealed the factories and arrested Managing Director Riasat Ali Bhatti, Production Manager Zohra Sameen, Quality Control Manager Nauman Ahmed and Director Operation Unees Ali Nagra and registered cases against them.
