Lahore: Governor House official held for liquor smuggling
LAHORE: Customs officials arrested Protocol Officer of Punjab Governor House, Rana Akhtar, from the premises of Allama Iqbal International Airport on Monday night, allegedly for smuggling liquor and mobile phones.
Sources in Airport Security Force (ASF) also confirmed the arrest of Rana Akhtar stating that the protocol officer reached the airport to receive a passenger identified as Naeem Siddiqui.
He was coming out of the Green Channel along with the passenger carrying two bags when the protocol officer was stopped by Customs officers,” the sources said.
It was learnt that the Customs officials recovered 100 mobile phones worth millions of rupees and eight bottles of liquor from the bags he was carrying.
It was not clear yet whether the Protocol Officer was doing this “illegal activity” at his own or he was asked by someone to provide ‘protocol’ to a special passenger.
According to an official, Rana was also drunk. Further investigations are underway.
