3 get jail in Mansehra rape case
MANSEHRA: An anti–terrorism court in Abbottabad on Thursday handed down 14-year imprisonment to two convicts who had allegedly raped a college student and 10-year imprisonment to another convict who drove the car. A cleric and his two accomplices took a first–year student to their car with the help of a class fellow of the victim on May 12 last year and two of them raped her repeatedly in the moving car.
The police later arrested Qari Naseer, his two accomplices Mohammad Faizan, Hussain Mushtaq and Anam Bibi, a class fellow of the victim. Judge Raja Masood handed down sentences after hearing arguments by the counsels of the convicts and the victim.
The court, besides announcing punishment for the culprits, also acquitted Anam, said to be a class fellow of the victim, as she had been arrested on charges of deceiving her friend and taking her to the car.
The case is the first of its kind in the region in which the convicts raped the victim in a moving car and pushed her out of vehicle in Ghazikot Township later. Zulfiqar Khan Jadoon, deputy superintendent of police in Mansehra, who headed a party that arrested the culprits in the case, expressed his satisfaction over the court verdict. He said it was a hard work that convicts were arrested within 24 hours after the incident.
