Police arrest 67 suspects in Peshawar raid
PESHAWAR: The Cantonment Circle police on Sunday arrested as many as 67 suspects, including 14 Afghan refugees and 30 illegal residents.
The operation was conducted under the command of Cantonment Superintendent of Police (SP) Umar Farooq in the precincts of Machni Gate, Gulberg, Tehkal, Pushtakhara, Hayatabad and Tatara police stations.
Sixty–seven suspected people, including 23 criminals, 14 Afghan refugees and 30 illegal residents were taken in to custody. A Kalashnikov rifle, two pistols, 106 cartridges, 22 kg heroin, 12 kg opium, two kg hashish and 20 motorcycles were also seized during the operation.
An eight–member gang of motorcycle and mobile phone snatchers was busted in the Faqirabad police precincts. Police claimed to have seized cash, stolen mobile phones and weapons. Meanwhile, SSP (Operations) Dr Mian Saeed informed reporters that target killer Naseer alias Kareeche was killed in an exchange of fire with police. “The suburb police, acting on an intelligence lead raided the hideout of infamous offender Naseer.
However the target killer opened fire on police and was killed in the retaliatory fire,” he said. Kareeche was wanted by police in murders, attempts of murder, robberies, drugs smuggling and target killings. During interrogation, a drug smuggler had told the police about Kareeche’s involvement in at least 20 killings. The police have launched the operation against criminals and illegal residents.
