MIRPUR (AJK): Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Accountability Bureau on Tuesday arrested five officials of AJK local government & rural development department on charges of embezzlement of official funds related to the World Bank-sponsored development schemes in the area.
RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested 20 law breakers including five gamblers and seized 53 liquor bottles, 230 grams Charras, five pistols 30 bore with 19 bullets, one rifle 12 bore with two rounds, cash Rs 5600 and three mobile phones.
LAHORE: A woman was killed allegedly by her brother-in-law who resorted to firing during a quarrel with his brother and husband of the victim in Nain Sukh locality in Shahdara police precincts on Wednesday.
The police said Nazia, a mother of three, suffered a bullet fired by Niamat Ali, who had an argument with his elder brother and Nazia’s husband Karamat Ali.The mother of three was trying to pacify the two brothers. The sibs had quarrelled with each other a few days ago too.
GUJRANWALA: Two cars and as many bikes were taken away in separate incidents. Thieves took away the carry van (LWQ-4860) of Sikdandar Hayat from Mohallah Islamabad. The Model Town police are investigating. Dacoits took away the bikes of Usman and Ayaz Ali from Gulshan Iqbal Park. The Dhulley police are investigating. Gangsters took away the car (LEB-3397) of Abid Hussain from Noorpura. The Civil Lines police are investigating.
PAKPATTAN: Six people shot dead a student over an old enmity at Chak Kalay Chishti. Six accused including Dost Muhammad opened a fire at Ali Ahmed Chishti of Chak Kalay and killed him. Students of Government Faridia College took out a protest rally against the murder.
LAHORE: A milkman shot his 35-year-old wife dead allegedly to preserve his ‘honour’ near T-5 on Tufail Road in Sanda police precincts on Wednesday.
A bullet also hit their four-year-old daughter, killing her on the spot.
PAKPATTAN: A man was shot dead while another injured over a minor dispute at Chak 56/D on Wednesday. The groups of Muhammad Azam and Riaz quarreled over a petty issue and opened fire. As a result, Azam was killed on the spot while Riaz was seriously injured. Chak Bedi police have registered a case.
OKARA: A rickshaw driver was killed when a clash erupted between two rival groups at General Bus Stand on Wednesday. Abdur Rashid Booti group and Dr Ashraf group exchanged hot words outside the court of the additional sessions judge on Wednesday morning. Later, both the groups started firing on each other. In the meantime, a bullet hit rickshaw driver Abid Hussain which claimed his life on the spot.
DERA MURAD JAMALI: A man committed suicide after suffering from fever for a prolonged period here at Dur Muhammad Umrani, an area of Nasirabad district, on Wednesday. According to police, the victim, identified as Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, consumed poison which caused his death. The body of the deceased was handed over to the heirs after legal formalities.
KARACHI: An MQM activist was shot dead, while another injured in Kharadar on Wednesday night. Ali, 24, and his friend, Waqas, 28, were injured when five men on two motorcycles opened fire in the Chappa Gali of Kharadar. SP City Town Nasir Aftab, while talking to The News, said the victims were sitting outside a shop when attacked.
