<custom_fields><Offence-Description>Bank robbery</Offence-Description><s2mail>yes</s2mail><Date of Research>28-11-2011</Date of Research><Word Summary>KARACHI: Sindh police claimed to have identified some 12 gangs allegedly involved in the recent bank robberies. Addressing a press conference at CPO office here on Saturday, Ghulam Bashir Sheikh, Additional Inspector General (AIG), Karachi, said the Sindh police had so far identified 12 gangs involved in the recent bank robberies.

He said the evidences had been collected and action would soon be initiated against them. Sheikh said some 15,000 policemen would be deployed at all sensitive areas and strict vigilance would be made to avoid mishaps during Muharram.

AIG said the defective standard operating procedures (SOPs) of local banks had provided lucrative opportunities to the looters to commit the crime. He said the records of bank robberies for the last five years had revealed that the robbers had only targeted local banks as the foreign banks strictly followed their SOPs to prevent such incidents.

He said the robbers got all technical knowledge i.e. where the DVR recording system was placed; how the system would be destroyed, etc before crime.

He said the branches of the banks used to send all DVR recording to their respective head office on daily basis but that exercise was not presently being practiced, which was not only helpful for the looters but also created problems for the law enforcers to identify the culprits.

“All banks have been asked to maintain DVR recording on daily basis, he said. AIG said the relevant SHOs had also been directed to ensure snap checking and patrolling, especially in the jurisdictions of banks during peak hours.

Replying to a question, he said the police officers, who foiled bank robbery bid on 24 November 2011, had been promoted and awarded medals. AIG said that both robbers, who were caught in the robbery bid and were identified as Muhammad Zaman Afridi and Sharif Khan Khaskheli, hailed from Kohat.

He termed the arrests as major breakthrough and said that three of five terrorists, who were killed in Sea View blast, were Chechens and entered in the city from Quetta route. He said the terrorists, including a woman, had planned to target Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine but faced unfortunate incident before they reached the spot. AIG said that two of five terrorists wore slippers while rest of them wore trousers and joggers and added that two terrorists, who wore slippers, might be suicide bombers.</Word Summary><Weblink>http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2011\11\27\story_27-11-2011_pg12_1</Weblink><Source>Daily Times</Source><Full Name>Muhammad Zaman Afridi| Sharif Khan Khaskheli</Full Name><First Name>Muhammad | Sharif</First Name><Middle Name>Zaman| Khan</Middle Name><Last Name>Afridi| Khaskheli</Last Name><Address>Kohat| Kohat</Address><Gender>Male| Male</Gender><views>149</views></custom_fields>	</item>

According to police officials, Melsi resident Rehana married Abdul Hafeez four years ago but the couple quarrelled often. Neighbours told police that Rehana recently moved out of her husband’s house because he was out of a job and refused to find work. Rehana moved back to her mother’s house in Khairpur.

On Friday, Hafeez reached Khairpur and begged her to return with him. Rehana’s mother Rukhsar Bibi told police that she initially turned him down.

“My daughter eventually agreed to return with him but he still grabbed my grandson and threw him in the canal,” Rukhsar Bibi told police. Rehana said that Hafeez grabbed Zia, 2, and ran outside of the house. Local residents apprehended Hafeez and called the police and rescue teams to the scene.

Police officials arrested Hafeez after he drowned his son. Rescue 1122 officials began to search for Zia but were unable to recover him until Sunday morning, when his body was handed over to the police for an autopsy.

Khairpur station house officer (SHO) told The Express Tribune that a police team had arrested Hafeez and registered an FIR under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).</Word Summary><Weblink>http://tribune.com.pk/story/298567/return-clause-father-tosses-baby-in-canal/</Weblink><Source>The Express Tribune</Source><Full Name>Abdul Hafeez</Full Name><First Name>Abdul</First Name><Last Name>Hafeez</Last Name><Gender>Male</Gender><Offence-Description>Murder</Offence-Description><Entity Type>Individual</Entity Type><Actual Relationship>Father</Actual Relationship><views>113</views></custom_fields>	</item>

At least eight people, including a reporter of Waqt television, were injured and a car, a van and around two dozen motorcycles were set ablaze by a large number of enraged people who had gathered at the place after the attack.

According to police, the attack took place when participants of a rally held by the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), formerly Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (now proscribed), at Regal Chowk had dispersed.

Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan said at least 16 suspects had been detained along with arms from a mosque.

The scouts were on duty to guide Muharram mourners and regulating traffic at a time the central majlis was about to commence at the Nishtar Park.

Zain Ali Zaidi, 23, of Buturab Scouts and Azhar Husain, 53, of Pak Hyderi Scouts were killed and Ayaz Ali, also of Pak Hyderi Scouts, was injured.

Zain was a BCom student and the eldest among his brothers. His father works abroad. He had joined the scouts two years ago.

He was hit by a bullet in the head near the Hussaini Blood Bank.

Azhar was a schoolteacher and had joined the scouts 30 years ago. He is survived by his wife and two children. Other scouts who rushed towards him after he had been shot came under another attack that left Ayaz injured. The three were taken to the Civil Hospital where two were pronounced dead and the third was admitted.

Senator Faisal Raza Abdi told a TV channel that shots had been fired at his sabeel regularly set up at Numaish for many years.

The ASWJ held the rally in protest against killing of its workers in the city. The plan to hold the demonstration had been announced at a protest rally held last week after the killing of Qari Zafar in North Nazimabad.

On Sunday the group decided to also demonstrate solidarity with the army against the Nato attack on a checkpost in Mohmand Agency.</Word Summary><Weblink>http://www.dawn.com/2011/11/28/two-scouts-on-muharram-duty-killed-in-karachi.html</Weblink><Source>Dawn News</Source><Offence-Description>Murder</Offence-Description><Entity Type>No Name</Entity Type><views>207</views></custom_fields>	</item>

<custom_fields><s2mail>yes</s2mail><Date of Research>28-11-2011</Date of Research><Word Summary>HYDERABAD: Six blasts caused by highly explosive devices destroyed rail tracks at three places in Sindh on Sunday, halting rail traffic for a few hours.

Two blasts on the up and down country tracks took place near Sehrish Nagar railway crossing in Hussainabad early in the morning.

Pamphlets found near the blast sites carried the name of little-known Sindhu Desh Liberation Army (SDLA) and rejected ‘anti-Sindh projects’, including Zulfikarabad. There was no report of any casualty and no arrests have been made.

According to railways chief controller’s office in Karachi, no train movement was scheduled at that time.

Three trains, Millat, Chenab and Khyber Mail, were halted at Kotri, Jhimpir and Jung Shahi railway stations for more than an hour before the tracks were repaired and the trains resumed their journey.

According to bomb disposal squad (BDS) personnel, the blasts were caused by a highly explosive substance. But they did not find any shrapnel at the blast site.

Hussainabad police have lodged a case against unidentified persons. But no arrests have so far been made, according to SHO Saghir Sangi.

He said the pamphlets carried slogans against Zulfikarabad and other projects deemed anti-Sindh by the outfit.

In Nawabshah, two explosions took place on the up and down tracks near Habib Sugar Mills, minutes after Zakriya Express had crossed the place.

Khyber Mail was stopped immediately after the explosion. In pamphlets found nearby the SDLA claimed responsibility for the blasts. Tracks on the down tracks were repaired and cleared in a few minutes but repairs of the up track took six hours.

Police said ANF sub-inspector Mohammad Munir and constable Mohammad Qasim were caught in Saddar Bairooni Police Station area after a brief chase but the man driving their official vehicle (RIG-1115), Sajid Mehmood, escaped.

Driver of the ill-fated passenger van (LES-5738), Mohammad Baz Khan, alleged that ANF patrolmen standing near Thalian Bridge on the Tarnol section of the Motorway signalled him to stop but opened fire before he could bring his van travelling at high speed to a stop.

“I was reducing the speed and flashing the indicator to stop by the roadside when the ANF officers opened fire on my wagon from their car. I heard one passenger shrieking,” he said, referring to passenger Fazl-i-Amin, a cloth merchant, who died instantly.

As the van came to a halt, the driver said his son and helper, Asad Khan, got out shouting at the hurtling ANF shooters what they had done.

But according to the father his 18-year-old son had hardly disembarked when the ANF men shot at him too, critically injuring him. He died on way to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

Preliminary postmortem report of the two victims said the bullets fired hit Fazl-i-Amin in the ribs. Asad was hit by four bullets three from the backside entered his chest and one his neck.

Wagon driver Baz Khan said in his statement to police that he and his son, who worked with him as conductor, were taking passengers from their native town Mardan to Lahore when the gruesome incident occurred.

On seeing that their shooting had killed one man while a second was gasping for life, the ANF officers fled the scene, he added.

Police were alerted. They gave chase to the fleeing men for about seven kilometres and caught up with them in Saddar Bairooni area as they had existed the Motorway in their attempt to escape.

City Police Officer Azhar Hameed Khokhar confirmed their arrest on murder charges. ANF officials were not available for comments despite repeated attempts. No contraband item or narcotics were found in the suspected van.

“Perhaps, the ANF personnel had wrong information about smuggling of narcotics,” said the CPO.

The violent deaths of two persons disturbed the wagon drivers travelling on the motorway. They wanted to block the traffic on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway but were persuaded by Rawalpindi police not to.</Word Summary><Source>Dawn News</Source><First Name>Mohammad | Mohammad| Sajid</First Name><Full Name>Mohammad Munir| Mohammad Qasim| Sajid Mehmood</Full Name><Last Name>Munir| Qasim| Mehmood</Last Name><Gender>Male| Male| Male</Gender><Offence-Description>Murder| Murder| Murder</Offence-Description><Entity Type>Individual| Individual| Individual</Entity Type><views>89</views></custom_fields>	</item>

<custom_fields><s2mail>yes</s2mail><Date of Research>28-11-2011</Date of Research><Word Summary>LAHORE: Audacious robbers shot dead a 40-year-old transporter and looted Rs50,000 and two cell phones from another man on a ‘well-guarded’ patch of Multan Road near the cattle market at Shahpur Kanjran early on Saturday.

According to Chuhng police, four robbers signalled a 10-wheeler truck loaded with maze to stop, but the driver accelerated the vehicle’s speed.

The robbers, who were on foot, opened fire and a bullet hit the head of the driver, identified as Fazal Karim, a resident of Mohalla Salamatpura, Sahiwal. The injured driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle overturned with maze

spreading on the road.

In the mean time, a car that was just behind the truck had to stop there too which gave an opportunity to the robbers to hold its driver, Anser Ali of Lahore Cantonment, at gunpoint. The outlaws deprived Anser of Rs50,000 and two cell phones and fled the scene on foot.

Police said Karim, father of a 14-year-old boy, was pronounced dead on the spot while his conductor, Abid Husain, escaped unhurt.

The police moved the body for autopsy and registered a case under sections 302 and 392 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Muhammad Akbar, the victim’s younger brother.

Akbar told Dawn by phone it was shocking that his brother was killed on a main road of the city just two kilometre away from a police station and there was no police patrolling the area.

He said car driver Anser reached the police station after the incident and alerted the police that reached the crime scene after about 20 minutes and collected evidence from there.

He lamented the motorway police even did not bother to visit the crime scene. Akbar demanded arrest of the killers and an exemplary punishment for them. He said Fazal was a transporter and was going to Islamabad to deliver a consignment.

However, a NH&MP official, who wished not to be named, claimed patrolling team of Beat 12, which was near EME Housing Society, rushed to the scene in four to five minutes after being informed that a truck met an accident at Shahpur Kanjran stop.

He said the NH&MP personnel called Rescue 1122 ambulance to the spot, pulled the victim out of the vehicle and informed local police about the incident.

He said the officials recovered Rs10,000 from the pockets of the victim and handed the amount over to the conductor.

The incident reportedly led to a minor traffic congestion on the road at around 2:45am.

The crime was committed at a busy road section between Thokar Niaz Beg and Chuhng Bazaar, just two kilometres away from the Chuhng police station. The patch is supposed to be patrolled by Punjab police and NH&MP vehicles.

Besides, Offices of NH&MP, Chuhng Police Training Centre, Lahore Traffic Police Lines, NAB Punjab office and a number of factories and residential colonies are located on the road section where audacious robbers struck despite the presence of at least three police pickets. This was the third incident in the last one week or so in the city in which robbers killed a citizen.

Official figures available with Dawn show that as many as 45 incidents of dacoity/robbery-cum-murder have been reported in the first 10 months and 26 days of 2011 as compared to 43 incidents reported in the corresponding period of last year. The figures contradict Lahore police authorities’ repeated claims that all available resources are being utilised for the protection of life and property of the citizens.

DIG (Operation) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, when contacted, said the incident took place because of absence of the SHO concerned and his all subordinates who were present at Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtima for security duty at the time of the incident. He claimed police got some positive clues about the suspects who would be traced shortly.</Word Summary><Weblink>http://www.dawn.com/2011/11/27/despite-three-police-pickets-robbers-shoot-man-loot-another-on-multan-road.html</Weblink><Source>Dawn News</Source><Offence-Description>Murder</Offence-Description><Entity Type>No Name</Entity Type><views>95</views></custom_fields>	</item>

<custom_fields><s2mail>yes</s2mail><Date of Research>28-11-2011</Date of Research><Word Summary>CHAKWAL: `Honour` feud claimed the life of a four-year-old girl here early Sunday, sources and relatives said. Humaina Mudassir was sleeping with her aunt Naureen Rafi when two persons stormed into their room and opened fire at them. Humaina was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital where she died while Naureen was stated to be in a critical condition.

Sources said the attackers wanted to kill Shumaila, the step-mother of Humaina, and they had already assassinated the father and grandmother of the little girl for `honour`.

Mudassir Hussain, a resident of Munday village, married a woman a few years back who born him Humaina. Later, due to some differences, Mudassir divorced her.

Mudassir, a rickshaw driver, developed relations with Shumaila, who belonged to an influential tribe of the village. When the elders of Shumaila refused to give her hand to Mudassir, the couple tied the knot through the court of law on October 19, 2010.

The elders of Shumaila, however, got registered a case of kidnapping against Mudassir and police arrested him. When Mudassir was in the police custody, the elders of Shumaila allegedly attacked his mother Zaibun Nisa on May 18, who died four days later.

Meanwhile, Mudassir was set free after Shumaila told the court that she had married him on her own will. However, he was also eliminated allegedly by the elders of Shumaila on October 27. The next day, Mudassir`s widow gave birth to a son. The elders of Shumaila threatened that they would also kill Shumaila along with her newly-born baby to save their honour.

Shumaila moved to the house of Mohammad Rafi, the elder brother of Mudassir, in Basti Allah Wali of Chakwal city. At 6am on Sunday, the attackers came to the house to kill Shumaila. Mr Rafi said they were four – Azhar, Asad, Abrar and Zaheer – and two of them stayed outside.
