ISLAMABAD: The annual report on violence against women (VAW) launched on Monday shows increasing trend of VAW in the country with married women becoming the victim in majority of the cases. The report titled ‘Situation of Violence against Women in Pakistan 2011’ is fourth such report issued by the by Aurat Foundation compiling annual statistics of violence against women in the country. The comprehensive report presents analysis of such crimes and explains the mindset that leads to these extreme steps.
KARACHI: Justice (r) Zahid Qurban Alvi, chief of the commission formed to ascertain the exact figure of the victims of targeted killing in Karachi in the year 2011, presented their first report to Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday. The report comprises suggestions and facts about the figure of the victims of targeted killing and terrorist activities. It was informed that the body chairman would soon submit a comprehensive report on this subject at a meeting of all major political groups. Heads of the parties would also be presented copies of the report.
KARACHI: Around 7,000 children were kidnapped last year and of the total, a large number belonged to Karachi, a report published by the Human Rights Commission South Asia (HRCSA) highlighted, stating that kidnappings noticeably increased in 2011.

KHANEWAL: The National Highways and Motorway Police arrested 101 criminals and recovered booty, including, two cars, 12 mobile phones and 436 litre liquor, from them during 2011. Talking to newsmen here on Friday, a police spokesman said that the police fined Rs 30.9 million to vehicle owners for violating rules during 2011 in the district.

KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department on Saturday claimed to have arrested three alleged operatives of Al-Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan including a suicide bomber in separate raids and recovered huge cache of weapons from their possessions.
LAHORE: Punjab Highway Patrol registered 2,163 cases and arrested 238 people on various criminal charges in 2011. The police also helped 213,000 citizens during their journey besides reuniting 387 children with their parents. The police arrested 47 proclaimed offenders and had 12 encounters with criminals. The police registered 461 cases on charges of speeding.
LAHORE: Organised Crime, CIA, traced 40 cases of blind murder and 26 cases of kidnapping for ransom during 2011.The police traced 143 cases of car theft, 276 cases of motorbike theft and 289 cases of robberies in 2011. Similarly, the police registered 523 cases on charges of illicit weapons and 144 cases on charges of drug trafficking. The police arrested 674 members of 156 criminals’ gangs and traced 1,471 cases. In 2011, CIA also arrested six members of Tehrik Talaban Pakistan.
